The vision of the Foundation AI Group is to build and train a foundational model for 3D generation, in addition to enabling all other AI pipelines.

The goal of this group is to make Roblox the standard for 3D foundational models (3DFMs) and open source the project for wider industry adoption. This will increase the amount of high-quality, immersive 3D experiences by making it easy for anyone to generate real-world simulations using AI.

ML Platform @ Roblox today supports hundreds of ML use cases and billions of inferences per day across Discovery, Safety, Engine, and much more.

You Will:
Optimize machine learning models for performance on GPU architectures, focusing on both training and inference workflows.
Conduct low-level performance profiling analysis to identify bottlenecks in existing machine learning pipelines and propose actionable improvements.
Contribute to the development of standard methodologies and tooling for model optimization and deployment.
Foster collaboration with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and software engineers, to integrate and deploy optimized models into production environments.
Mentor less experienced engineers and help us build a renowned ML team.
Ensure that our systems are scalable, reliable, and extensible.
Partner across organizations to build tooling, interfaces, and visualizations that make the ML@Roblox a delight to use.
You Have:
Possesses or pursuing a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a similar technical degree.
Experience with one or more of the following areas: search, recommendation, or advertising for a high-scale product.
Experience with model optimization techniques for LLMs, such as speculative decoding, continuous batching, quantization, etc.
Experience debugging GPUs – reading GPU profiles, debugging Xid errors, etc.
Knowledgeable: Experience building and working on end-to-end ML systems, including data analysis, ML modeling, and data pipelines.
Collaborative: You enjoy working with and leading engineers and can help them to accomplish the impossible.
Creative: You take a creative and strategic approach to solving hard people and technical problems. You engage well with Product and can navigate an organization to promote clarity and improvement.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
